OMF7/My Birthday So, any of you who are true friends know that my birthday is rapidly approaching. Well, let's be honest. None of you had any clue. October 11, 1979 marked a day in history in which the world was changed forever. Well, my world anyway.
So, I've decided there will be a party. There will be no presents, cards, or other normal birthday things (there might be a cake). Instead, there will be a movie.
A great man by the name of Kirk Wells once decided that a group of friends should meet up monthly to share obscure movies with one another. He left Atlanta, and Obscure Movie Friday(OMF) looked as if it were going to leave with him. He took me aside before he left and told me that it was my duty to carry on this tradition. So, in response to this, I sat on my ass for seven months and then decided to have one on Saturday.
That's right folks, Saturday, October 14, 2006 will herald the return of OMF. The movie is yet to be decided, but it will be obscure. I can almost guarantee you've never seen it and probably have never heard of it.
So, mark off your calendar for 10/14, and be ready to party. We'll probably start around 6, then start the movie around 9 or 10. There will also be more partying afterward. I'm going to send out an evite as well, so if you think I don't have your e-mail address, send it to me. Are you excited? | | Friday, September 8th, 2006 | | 10:57 am |
Yay! Music! Ok, I actually did something fun and exciting last night. Well, I think it was fun and exciting. You may disagree.
Melissa and I went to band practice. Yes, as in I broke out my trombone and played it for a few hours. I can't even describe how much I missed playing in a band.
We went over to Georgia Perimeter College in Clarkston (which is a lot closer than it sounds.) Apparently, all you have to do is show up, grab a folder full of music, and play. No auditions or anything.
The thing I wasn't prepared for, was being the only trombone player. I don't know if this band doesn't have trombones, or if just no one showed up last night. This made it very interesting when there were parts of the music that only trombones played, and I had never seen this music before. I like to consider myself a fairly skilled player (when I'm at my peak), but I've never been able to sightread. It's my biggest musical weakness.
So anyway, it was fun, and I'm going back next week. Depending on how it goes, I may invite all of you out to a concert. Oh, and if any of you play an instrument, anyone can join this band. I think they've only had three rehearsals this season, so you wouldn't be too far behind. It's really fun. | | Wednesday, August 30th, 2006 | | 4:13 pm |

Deep thoughts You may know someone like this. In my office, there's this guy. He works for the sales team or something, so he's very friendly. One day, he started stopping by our desks and talking to us for a minute. Since I'm still relatively new here, I figured he was a guy that my co-worker knew and I had just never seen before.
It eventually turned out that my co-worker didn't know him either. Even so, the very first time he stopped by, he acted as if he'd been stopping by our desks for years. He would pick up this toy gun off of the other guy's desk and played with it, then walked on.
I'd encounter him at various places like the break room or the restroom. We'd chit-chat a bit, and then go on. Overall, he was a very nice guy, and it just always felt good to talk with him. One of us always walked away laughing.
Yesterday, I received an e-mail that said that some guy that worked here had passed away. I didn't recognize the name, so I thought nothing of it. Today, I found out that it was the same guy who randomly talked to us. I never knew his name until today. Now, I'll never forget it.
This teaches me that it doesn't matter who you encounter in life or how often. You can touch people's lives without them even knowing your name. I will miss him, and I didn't even know him. Everyone is important, and we all have a place. It could all be over tomorrow, so you may as well enjoy it today. |
